Sanctuary Victoria Inc.
Who we are
We are an incorporated, registered not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne, Victoria. We operate independently, with no government funding, relying completely on the generosity of the Australian community. We sponsor and resettle recognised refugees, regardless of race, religion or cultural background.
What we do
We provide three key services to refugees applying under the Special Humanitarian Program: sponsorship, financial assistance in the form of a travel loan, and settlement support upon arrival.
Sponsorship:
We receive requests for sponsorship all the time from desperate refugees who wereforced to flee their homes due to war and persecution, many facing terrible situations in camps like Kakuma in Kenya, and Nyarugusu in Tanzania.
Travel Loans:
We provide an interest-free travel loan to those refugees whose application for permanent residence in Australia is successful. This loan is then repaid gradually by the recipients after arrival, and then funded to save another family.
Settlement Support:
We provide advice and assistance with all aspects of resettlement - Medicare, Centrelink, banking appointments, schools, English classes, rental of accommodation, food, clothing, transport, etc. We seek to ease the refugees’ transition from war and suffering, to a new life and culture.
